Poland's Position in European Waterway Logistics

Poland's geography places it at the intersection of two major European inland waterway corridors: the E40 (connecting the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea via the Vistula, Bug, and Dnieper) and the E70 (linking Rotterdam to Klaipėda via the Oder and Vistula).

The country operates more than 3,600 kilometres of navigable waterways, though only a fraction currently meets the Class IV international navigation standards required for regular commercial freight operations.

Investment programmes under EU cohesion funding and domestic infrastructure plans have focused on upgrading lock capacity, river training works, and intermodal terminal connections at key nodes including Bydgoszcz, Wrocław, and the Tri-City area.
